Xanthe Somers

Xanthe Somers (b. 1992 ZW) was born and went to school in Harare, Zimbabwe. She graduated from Michealis, UCT in Cape Town in 2015., majoring in printmaking in which she specialised in etching and screen prints. However, her work has now gravitated more towards sculptural forms. Somers's current practice deals with memory discourse and the problems that encircle the preservation and remembrance of memory on an individual scale as well as within the collective memory of society. Through visually stimulated materiality, she aims to find new ways, outside of the memorial or monument, to represent memory.

Since graduating, Somers has attended an art residency in Turin, Italy where she held her own solo show. Followed by an exhibition in Harare, Zimbabwe at the Corridor Gallery. In 2016 Somers has been a top 10 finalist in two international art competitions, The Celeste Prize and The Blooom Award.
